Earlier this year I had a crazy idea that I should train and run a half marathon. For some reason running for 13.1 miles sounded like a fun time! After months of training I finally achieved my goal and ran my first half marathon this past Sunday in Durham, NC!
The Bull City Race Fest and Food Truck Rodeo was a blast! The course was really nice for the first seven miles then the hills kicked in. The hills from mile eight to twelve almost killed me!
After the race I was so glad to be done and my legs were yelling at me! I had a sweet friend also run the race. She is a rock star and killed me by about twenty minutes! The recovery tent had massage tables set up for runners. That ten minute massage was the best massage I've had in my entire life. I even asked the sweet woman to marry me!
Post race they had nine food trucks set up. I knew ahead of time that Triangle Raw Foods would be there and they'd have some yummy things for me to eat. I grabbed some Pad Tai and a chocolate square. However the other food trucks didn't have anything appealing to my friend and hubby so we headed over to Bull City Burger for our post race celebration meal! Can you say pimento cheese burger on a Gluten Free bun with duck fat fries!!!! Yes please!
For dinner I enjoyed the food from Triangle Raw Foods. The Pad Tai was made with zucchini noodles. It had a great texture and flavor but was a touch spicy for me. The chocolate square had a nut base topped with an avocado chocolate spread. I could have gone swimming in the avocado chocolate goodness!
I want to thank all of you for your support during my run! I loved seeing all the comments on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of you guys cheering me on!
I was also able to share the Gluten Free love with other runners. Lots of people made comments about my shirt. My Groovy Hoo from Hoo-Rag was also a hit! I didn't have to adjust it once in 13.1 miles! That says a lot!
I'm even planning to do a second half marathon in November at the Outer Banks! Anyone want to join me?! This is a flat course with only one hill - praise the Lord! I'm hoping to take at least ten minutes off my time!
Thanks again for all the love!
