How Essential Oils Can Help in Your Gluten Free Journey

Living Gluten Free has challenges, many involve your body doing weird things from headaches to joint pain to gastro problems.

GFoils

Recently I have seen how essential oils have helped me when my body goes weird from Gluten. Admittedly I was slow to believe that essential oils could help in any way.  It took me 6 months to get to the point where I am buying and using essential oils.

Lets start at the beginning – what are essential oils?

“Essential Oils are the volatile liquids that are distilled from plants (including their respective parts such as seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, fruit, etc.”

“Essential Oils embody the regenerating, protective, and immune-strengthening properties of plants.”

– Modern Essentials Usage Guide, Aroma Tools, 2014

Essential oil use methods:

  • Topically – placed on the skin, hair, or nails
  • Aromatic – inhaling the a fine mist of the oil or vapor
  • Internal – consuming the oils

There are a ton of oils and each have different use methods, some can be used all 3 ways.

I’m a newbie to essential oils but here are some of the benefits I have personally experienced.

  • Headaches – placing Peppermint Oil on my temples or rub a drop in my hand and take a few deep breaths, PastTense is a blended oil in a roller that I put on my temples and the back of my neck
  • Sore muscle – Deep Blue is a blend that I have rubbed on my sore muscles after work outs to help speed up my recovery time
  • Immune Support – Breathe is a blend that I rub a drop in my hand and take a few deep breaths, this helps open me up
  • Digestive issues – DigestZen is a blend that I topically put on my abdomen to help calm my system. I have also put this on the bottom of Little B’s big toe when she had an upset tummy. I have also added a drop of Peppermint Oil to water to help my digestion

There are so many uses that I’m not even aware of yet, but these are the ones that convinced me they can help our family. To start down this journey I had a discussions with another Gluten Free blogger who uses a brand called doTerra. I understand there are a number of essential oil companies and options out there, please decide which one is best for you. I have decided to use the doTerra essential oils.

I want to try frankincense. I’ve heard so many good things from my mom about this oil. It helped a persistent skin issue she was having and may have reduced some inflammation to help her lose weight.

I’ve been to a few Doterra parties and have tried the On Guard myself, and gave a bottle to my father during his chemo/radiation treatment for esophageal cancer. Not one day of an upset stomach or sniffle during his 6 weeks of treatments! Love this stuff!:!!

I’m really interested in frankincense right now – it seems to be in so many of the different blends and so useful for so many different things. Wish it weren’t so expensive, though! 🙂

Retail is $93 and wholesale is $69.75 so it is an expensive one – but it lasts for a while!

I do use essential oils. I use them because they do work and have positive results at different degrees depending on the problem. I have never tried this brand. Essential oils are very expensive on my budget. I’m always willing to try free samples of other brands to compare. I have discovered different brand’s potencies can differ greatly.
