It’s Zoodles Time – a Basic How to Guide #glutenfree #spiralizer

By now it should be pretty clear that I’m in love with my new spiralizer!  I use it almost daily and have created a number of yummy recipes with it so far.  It is so easy and fun to use and it makes me want to eat vegetables!


Here is the basic how to recipe for making zoodles.  This is the basic recipe that I use as my base for all my zoodle recipes.  I can cook this meal in under 15 minutes and that includes chopping and making the zoodles.


For clarification sake, zoodles are zucchini noodles.  You can make them in different sizes and shapes based on the tools you have.  I purchased this spiralizer on Amazon and love it!

Now to the basic recipe.  Like I said, this is the template I follow when creating a zoodles based meal.  Once you have this basic recipe down you can vary it however you want based on what you have on hand and what you want the end result to look like.  This recipe is enough for 1 serving, so you just need to multiple it for however many people you are feeding.

What You Need:
2 tbsps oil, divided
1/2 onion, chopped
1 medium zucchini, spiralized
salt and pepper

How To Make It:
Heat a skillet over high heat.  Add 1 tbsp of oil to the skillet, when waves appear in the oil add the onion.  Stir to coat and cook for 3 minutes.  Then add in the zoodles, seasoning and additional tbsp of oil.  Stir to coat and cook for 3 to 5 minutes depending on how you like your zoodles.  Then enjoy!

For the dish shown below I also added 2 chopped mushrooms in with the onions and 1/2 cup of cooked chicken when I added the zoodles.

Zoodles Spiralizer

If you are adding meat or a sauce to the dish I recommend adding them when you put in the zoodles.  If you are adding vegetables that need to be cooked put them in initially with the onions.

I also enjoy using the zoodles in place of regular Gluten Free noodles with red or white pasta sauces.  For the dish below I added some minced garlic with the onions, and cooked the red sauce with ground turkey in a separate skillet.  I just topped my zoodles with the meat sauce and I was good to go!


I have created over ten dishes in the past 3 weeks using this basic recipe.  Here are some photos of dishes I’ve created with the spiralizer.  The orange noodles are sweet potatoes.  You can cook them the same as listed above.  They do take a full 5 minutes to cook.


Making zoodles has been my go to lunch or dinner.  It takes no time at all and tastes great.  To me zoodles are more fun than a salad and seem to last a little longer especially if I add some additional veggies and some protein.
