13.1 miles

A half marathon is 13.1 miles!  For some very strange reason I decided earlier this year that 2013 was going to be the year that I run a half marathon.   My hubby did one about four years ago and I am so stinking proud of him for it!  I guess running a half is on my list of things to do before I can’t.

I have talked before about my love/hate relationship with running.  This is why it is unclear why I think running for 2.5 hours sounds like a good time.  But on Sunday I bit the bullet and signed up for my first Half Marathon in October!  This gives me lots of time to train and convince myself that it is a good idea.

See, don’t I look super excited to run 13 miles?!

So I am all ears to anyone that has training tips and Gluten Free race snacking tips.

Gulp!

The easy way to start running is to do intervals. Run for 2 minutes walk for 1. It helps build up distance and muscle strength. Good luck!

i can second that. when i started running i couldn’t run 1/2 mile ! now i have run 2 5K with decent times. i remember when i was excited to run an entire song ! my longest has been 6 miles so i can’t really give marathon advice. get good music ? and know adrenilin (spelling?) will help you that last little bit ? that’s my best tip. do you have a foam roller ? i get lots of tightness in my IT bands and low back from running and the foam roller every night has helped me a lot.
